Purpose:
The purpose of this article is to configure a VPN connection.
Target Audience:
Users who have Windows 10/11
Before we Begin:
- You should have a received a "Keeper Share" that includes the hostname and pre-shared key password.
Instructions/Process:
- Open Start Menu > Search "VPN" > Click Change virtual private networks (VPN) or VPN Settings
- From the VPN settings page, click Add a VPN connection.
- In the Add a VPN connection dialog:
- VPN provider: Set to Windows (built-in)
- Connection name: This can be anything you want to name this connection, for example, "Work VPN"
- Server name or address: Enter <HOSTNAME IN KEEPER>
- VPN type: Select L2TP/IPsec with preshared key
- The preshared key is <KEY IN KEEPER>
- User name and Password: You should have received your temporary credentials in an email from Cisco Meraki – No Reply subject line: Fwd: You have been authorized for <Tenant Info>
- Under Type of Sign-In Info, choose "Username and Password" and fill out your Meraki Sign information in the fields below that.
- If you forgot or need to reset your Meraki Account Password, you can use this link (Meraki Login (Reset Password)) and follow the Forgot Password process. - Press Save.
After the VPN connection has been created:
For Windows 10: Click Change adapter options under Related settings.
For Windows 11: Click the down arrow beside your newly created VPN connection and choose "Advanced Options".
- After that:
Windows 10: Right-click on VPN Connection from the list of adapters and click Properties.
Windows 11: Choose "Advanced Options" then Edit beside "More VPN Properties". - In the Options tab, Update to Idle Time Before Hanging Up to: 1 Hour
- In the Security tab, select Require encryption (disconnect if sever declines) under Data encryption. Then, select Allow these protocols under Authentication. From the list of protocols, check Unencrypted password (PAP), and uncheck all other options. Click OK when finished.
- Back at the VPN Settings window, click Connect on the VPN you just created.
- This will automatically sign you in and show as connected if setup properly.
-Note: When testing VPN connection, you will need to test from a network outside of your internal company network such as a hotspot using Cellular Data (not connected to the Wi-Fi) or in a network outside your organization.
